Sugar may taste good, but the things it can do to your body and teeth aren’t.
Even foods like whole grains and veggies, which don’t taste sweet on their own, have sugar in them. Natural sugar in organic foods is fine to eat since they have fibre and minerals that the body needs. What can get you into trouble, though, is too much extra sugar.
As your dentist, we care about your general health as well as the health of your mouth. Here are some of the worst things that can happen to your body if you eat too much sugar:

Sugar and your heart: A study released in 2014 in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine found that people who got 17–21% of their daily calories from added sugar had a 38% higher chance of dying from heart disease.
Sugar and your teeth: When sugar stays on our teeth for too long, it can damage the enamel, which the body can’t fix. More importantly, sugar brings germs with it, which can cause things like gingivitis and
gum disease. As lips recede, teeth can become loose and fall out.
Sugar and your liver: Your liver needs some sugar to make fat, but if you eat too much processed sugar or high-fructose corn syrup, the fat can build up and cause liver disease. Some studies even show that eating too much sugar can hurt your liver just as much as drinking booze.
