Root canal therapy starts by making a small hole in the top of the tooth to get to the inside. Then, sick or dead pulp tissue that is deep inside the tooth is taken out. The “canals” that go down into each root and hold nerves are taken out, cleaned, and sanitized. After the tooth has been filled with a harmless material, it is sealed to keep it from getting infected again. A crown, or “cap,” is sometimes needed to hold the tooth together and get it back to normal.
Root canals today are successful between 95% and 99% of the time.

If a tooth is damaged by decay or an accident, it may need to be taken out. Depending on the state of your jawbone, you may need a bone graft. In either case, a metal post is put in the jaw to act as the root of the implanted tooth. Then we wait for your body to fill in the space around the post with bone. This could take months or even longer. Your jaw needs to be strong enough to hold the new tooth.
In the end, an abutment is put in place to hold the fake tooth, and more repair is needed.
