Both thumb sucking and long-term use of a dummy can cause teeth to shift out of place, which can lead to tooth problems. Also, sucking on your thumb can cause a problem called malocclusion, which is when your top and lower teeth don’t line up right. Malocclusion can finally make it hard to chew or talk, which can slow a child’s development. So, to avoid these possible dental problems, it’s best to give up the habit as soon as possible.
